Born Gladys Georgianna Greene in New York, she was working as a model when she was discovered by Fox Film Studios. She later landed roles in suchs films as Mr. Smith Goes to Washington and The Plainsman. After her contract with Columbia expired in the 1940's, she took less and less work, and became a noted recluse who rarely made public appearances.
Arthur died of heart failure in 1991.

- The Plainsman (1936) - Arthur has her hands tied as she is pulled by a man on horseback, and later has her hands bound overhead along with Gary Cooper.
