Born Myrna Williams in Helena, Montana she moved to California along with her mother shortly after her father's death in 1918. She started to act in small stage productions as well as dance. She caught the attention of Rudolph Valentino, getting her a small role in Pretty Ladies. From there, she moved up through roles as a femme fatale to a varying range, and her performance in 1934's The Thin Man cemented her stardom.
Loy worked solidly through the 30's and 40's, and was one of the highest-paid actresses of the era. As her career began to wane, she still found a role here and there, with her last appearance coming in 1982.
Loy died in 1993 at 88 years of age.
