Ruth Roland (1892-1937) was one of the first serial queens, Pearl White. She came from a show business family, and did her first role at 3 1/2 years of age. She appeared in her first of over 200 films in 1909, but by the advent of the talkies, she returned to the stage.
Roland was independently wealthy, amassing a fortune in the California real estate market, and virtually retired by the early 30's. She died of cancer in 1937 at the young age of 45.
